One day Itinerary

Milazzo, 18 miles from Portorosa, is one of the marine areas not to be missed. The city owes its fame to its geographical position. A long promontory goes from the city and extends into the sea forming two large gulfs of extraordinary beauty. The Western Riviera and the Eastern Riviera. To know Cape Milazzo you need to circumnavigate it. Arriving from Portorosa, we come across the spectacular Arenella Bay in the Western Gulf, with its wonderful white-sand beaches, coasting along the promontory until we arrive at the extremity of Cape Milazzo with its lighthouse. From here, we can see the Eastern Riviera right up to the city walls.

The Riviera is a cliff alternating with grottoes and sandy inlets. We meet “Cala Oliva” inlet, “Cala del Pepe” inlet, the “Gold Grotto”, Pardiso Bay and the famous “Gotta do Polyphemus”.

One particular characteristic of this sea area is its marine bottom, rich in life which creates interesting photographic opportunities; in fact, this area has been used for Italian and International underwater photographic competitions. To be admired are cliff faces, rocks, grottoes, ravines and gorges, vegetation, fish and corals. Completing the panorama are the walls which surround the Castle, visible on the high area of the promontory and which, nowadays, can be visited as a museum.
